EMC Grass Roots Innovation Program Presents:
21st Century Education Needs Innovative Solutions and Personal Engagement
Learn about exciting new ways to impact our local schools

Wednesday, December 7, 2011
5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

The challenges of education in our country and community are well documented. Budgets are low, teachers are stretched and performance is down. Even if we don’t have children of our own, we know this is an urgent issue for our all of us and we cannot just sit on the sidelines waiting for the problem to get ‘fixed’. We not only need bold new solutions for the educational challenges, we also need to get personally involved to help deliver them ‐ it takes a community to educate a child.

The good news is that technology is becoming a great enabler in driving change and delivering results in education. Unique and exciting partnerships are forming across Silicon Valley, all with a singular focus on improving student outcomes. Non‐profits, private companies and schools are working together to combine resources and effect significant change with many startups forming to provide solutions to the various problems. One such is the ‘edutech’ start‐up Meemli which creatively uses technology to connect students to helpful individuals and organizations.

Meemli Founder & CEO Usha Sekar presents a hopeful future for education along with her guest, Muhammed Chaudhry, CEO of the Silicon Valley Education Foundation, a high impact non‐profit helping local schools. You will learn about the problems as well as some of the initiatives to solve them, ranging from government to grass-roots efforts – including a forward‐thinking joint project between SVEF and Meemli using technology to bring students the guidance they need to gain competency in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
